What is Health Coaching
Health and Wellness Coaching is a holistic, integrated, client centered process that motivates healthy life style behavior change through nonjudgmental dialogue, goal setting, and accountability. The process is designed to empower and collaborate with the client to find their own internal strength and determination and become their better self.
The process typically involves:
- Motivational Interviewing – the coach supports the client to discover their motivation for behavior change and how to adapt to those desired changes. It is goal oriented and client driven.
- Positive Psychology – the coach focuses on a client’s strengths, rather than their weaknesses, to drive behavior change.
- Healthy Habit Formation – Through mindfulness unhealthy habits are replaced with more healthy behaviors. For example, a client may learn to relieve stress by exercise instead of smoking.
